Couples Therapy

Whether you’ve been together for one year or fifty years, it is never too soon or too late to grow in your relationship.

Even the most loving relationships run into some rough patches, whether due to a stressful life event like having a baby or a serious illness, infidelity, jobs, in-laws, money, or fighting over the little things like leaving clothes on the floor or what to have for dinner, or just a feeling of distance between you and your sweetheart.

Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy

I am an Emotionally Focused Couples Therapist, which means I focus on the emotions underlying negative interactions in your relationship. The first step in EFT therapy is that together we will identify the negative pattern or dance that has developed between you over time.

Understanding the steps of that dance and what happens to each of you at different points during arguments, or when you’re feeling distant, can help move you both toward a deeper understanding of not only yourself but your partner as well.

This deeper understanding helps to create feelings of affection for one another. Using EFT techniques, I can help you both feel safer to express your fears, longings, and desires to your partner. This safety allows you to be vulnerable with each other, which opens up a whole new world of possible interactions rather than the old negative patterns that used to leave you feeling alone, scared, angry, and sad.

This process takes time and a willingness to take risks with your partner.

It isn’t always easy but the reward of feeling truly seen and loved by your partner is lifelong closeness and connection. The changes you make in your relationship can have a ripple effect and change the way your loved ones experience your relationship. Your family and friends will see a difference and you may inspire them to change their relationships by being role models for love and kindness toward one another.

I hope you decide to contact me at (951) 287-5501, so we can talk about the changes you’d like to see in your relationship.
